Blessing; Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae, Owairaka - November 24,2023
Kaumātua has been welcomed into the world and blessed at Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae, Ōwairaka Mount Albert, Tāmaki in November 2023. It marks a special moment, opening our arms and welcoming all kaumātua who follow from across the motu.
The kōrero of Whāea Rānana , Hēni, Lynda, and Matua Hare – four voices of Ōwairaka – are the very first of this kaupapa. They are our inspiration, our carriers of mātauranga and our ahi ka.
Kaumātua will be a two-three-year kaupapa, resulting in a final publication and exhibition encompassing around thirty kaumātua from across Aotearoa.
Kaumātua-Voices of Ōwairaka booklet will eventually be brought together into one larger publication. The collaborative approach with smaller communities across Aotearoa allows for celebration each step of the way.
Ngā mihi nui to Rānana (Nancy) Taituha-Paul, Hēni Goldsmith, Lynda Toki, and Hare Paniora for entrusting your taonga aboard this waka.
(Please note error from Whakaata Māori- It WILL be a three year project - It did not take three years to get to here)
